Lawyer shot and killed in George

The deceased, whose identity is known to George Herald, but has not been officially released by the police, was also a former detective at the George Police Station.

Police in Thembalethu outside George in the Western Cape are investigating the cold-blooded murder of a 47-year-old lawyer.

The lawyer, whose name has not yet been released by police, was killed in Makhaza Street in Zone 6 of the township, on Saturday.

According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, it is believed that there were two attackers.

One of the men, who was carrying a firearm, opened fire on the victim at about 20:30 before the two fled on foot.

When the police arrived on the scene they found the victim with several gunshot wounds to his head and body. He was declared dead by paramedics on the scene.

The motive for this killing is yet to be determined.
