Legal Aid refusal forces accused wife killer to drop bail application

The man accused of killing his wife at a Westville pub has abandoned his bail bid after Legal Aid declined to represent him.

Nicolas le Roux, the man accused of murdering his wife, Taryn le Roux, at a pub in Westville on September 15, has abandoned his bail application following Legal Aid’s decision not to represent him.

Highway Mail reports that Le Roux (68) appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today, after a brief appearance on Monday.

His bail application had been postponed pending confirmation of Legal Aid representation. However, after reviewing Le Roux’s bank statements submitted to the court on Monday, Legal Aid attorney Mandisi Mathebula informed the court they would not take on his case.

Following this development, Le Roux chose to abandon his application for bail but stated his intention to appeal Legal Aid’s decision.

During his Monday appearance, Le Roux told Magistrate Stan Miloszewski that he is a contract worker and does not earn an income while in South Africa.

Miloszewski advised today that the Legal Aid appeal process may take between four and six weeks. Le Roux was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on November 18.
