Life and 74 years imprisonment for KZN serial rapist

An alleged serial rapist has been sentenced to life plus 74 years in prison in the Mtubatuba High Court in KwaZulu-Natal.

Sihle “Wonderboy” Nyango (25) from Mtubatuba in the north of Richards Bay, faced five counts of rape, two counts of kidnapping, theft and escaping from prison.

He was convicted on all countsZululand Observer reported.

One rape count led to Nyango’s life sentence while the other charges amounted to a further 74 years and six months imprisonment.

Nyango allegedly raped five women in Mtubatuba and KwaMsane in 2010.

A victim reportedly later recognised Nyango by the marks on his hands and reported his whereabouts to police who later arrested him.

In 2012, while in prison awaiting trial in Empangeni, Nyango escaped and fled to Limpopo where he was arrested again and sent back to prison.

Nyango, who maintained his innocence throughout the trial, will serve his sentences at the Qalakabusha Prison in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal.

In a separate incident, a 35-year-old KwaZulu-Natal man was given three life sentences after he raped three victims, one of whom was mentally disabled.

Thamsanqa Ndlovu, 35, had raped two victims on separate occasions in the Umbumbulu area in December 2013 and a third victim during a period from April 2013 to November 2013.
