Listen: Eskom announces load-shedding relief

The weekend kicked off on a high, with Eskom announcing this afternoon that daytime power cuts will once again be suspended.

Eskom says Stage 3 load-shedding will be implemented from 16:00–00:00 this weekend.

The announcement comes with a bit of good news, however. After being in effect since Wednesday, the power utility has suspended daily stage 1 power cuts between 05:00–16:00. This means that after tonight’s bout of stage 3 load-shedding, the lights will come on at 05:00 and stay on until 16:00 tomorrow.

A total of 14 374MW of generating capacity loss is currently being experienced as a result of breakdowns, while an additional 5 003MW is offline due to planned maintenance.
