Load-shedding stages reduced over the weekend

South Africans can look forward to slightly less load-shedding over the next couple of days.

Eskom has announced that load-shedding will be reduced to stages 2 and 4 over the weekend.

Here is the schedule:

14:00 today to 05:00 tomorrow: Stage 4

05:00 tomorrow to 16:00: Stage 2

16:00 tomorrow to 05:00 Sunday: Stage 4

This pattern will be repeated until Eskom publishes another update.

According to the power utility, breakdowns are currently at 16 468MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 4 601MW.

“Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit at Camden Power Station was taken offline for repairs. In the same period, a generating unit each at Arnot, Grootvlei, Kendal and Majuba power stations was returned to service,” a media statement released by Eskom this afternoon reads.

The power utility says there has been a delay in bringing a generating unit back to service at Matla Power Station, which contributes to current capacity constraints.

“Eskom teams are working tirelessly to return these generating units to service.”
