Man arrested after allegedly throwing drugs over school fence in Gauteng
During a crime prevention patrol in Kwa-Thema, police chased down a suspect and recovered drugs suspected to be mandrax.
A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to evade police officers while in possession of suspected drugs in Kwa-Thema on Tuesday (June 9), reports African Reporter.
According to Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela, officers were conducting crime prevention patrols along Khumbuza Street when they noticed a man running towards an open veld after spotting a marked police vehicle.
Finding his behaviour suspicious, officers gave chase and eventually caught up with him near a local school.
“The man then threw a plastic bag over the fence and fell to the ground. Officers approached him and noticed that he was still holding another plastic bag in his hand. The man then surrendered,” said Sekgobela.
“Police questioned the suspect, who allegedly admitted that he was in possession of drugs and handed over the plastic bag he was carrying.”
Officers reportedly found brownish-coloured tablets and a powder substance inside the bag.
The suspect was informed of his arrest for possession of substances suspected to be drugs.
Police then retrieved the plastic bag that had allegedly been thrown over the school fence.
Inside, officers discovered another plastic bag containing large crystal-like rocks suspected to be narcotics.
Police seized fourty four tablets suspected to be mandrax, a plastic bag containg a brown powder substance and another bag containg numerous large, crystal-like rocks suspected to be drugs.
The suspect was taken into custody, and further investigations are underway.
