Man brain damaged following stabbing
A man has suffered severe brain damage after being stabbed in the head with a screwdriver while helping a woman during an attack.
Colin Pitts (43), a workshop manager and mechanic at Pitts Marine and Industrial in Pietermaritzburg, was left with only half his brain, Public Eye Maritzburg reported.
Pitts cannot stand for more than five seconds after having been stabbed in the left side of his head with a screwdriver during the incident last year.
According to medical reports, he suffered severe damage to his right brain, which had to be removed after three emergency operations.
Pitts’ wife, Michelle, said: “Colin was a fantastic husband and father. He loved fishing and cycling and just about any outdoor activity.”
Pitts spent four months in hospital and two months in the Wembley Nursing Facility, where his condition started to improve slowly.
He has since been transferred to Entabeni Hospital for eight weeks.
His wife said: “At the Entabeni Healthcare Facility, my husband has made a great deal of progress and just needed more time at the facility to get him mobile. My only wish is if I could get some kind of financial assistance to get Colin back to the Entabeni Healthcare Facility.”

In a separate incident, a case of murder was opened after a 23-year-old man was found stabbed to death in Bluff, KwaZulu-Natal.
The man was found by a passerby with multiple stab wounds to his body.
It is believed the deceased succumbed to his injuries and died the moment an ambulance arrived.
Brighton Beach police communications officer Captain Le Roux said the suspects were still unknown, and police were investigating the matter further.
