A man facing a charge of dealing in dagga appeared at the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. The suspect (29) was arrested during a sting operation after he allegedly tried to sell dagga to high school children in Lamontville near Durban.

According to the police the suspect was caught in the act, selling dagga to the learners outside a high school in Lamontville on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the police received a tip-off about a man who was selling drugs to school children.

He said members of the Social Crime Prevention Unit planned an operation. They found the suspect and 10 learners inside a room next to the school. Eight of the learners were girls.

“He was in possession of dagga which he was selling to these young school children.”

“With police officers prioritising the future of children and the ongoing final examinations, learners were given a stern warning in the presence of their parents before they were released,” said Netshiunda.
