Man served with protection order kills self

An inquest docket has been opened after a man committed suicide in his Wierda Park home in Centurion, Gauteng after he was allegedly served with a protection order.

Wierdabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said the man shot himself in the upper body on Wednesday at about 7pm, Rekord Centurion reported.

“He was apparently served with a protection order earlier in the day,” added Huma.

Investigations are ongoing.

Last month, a prisoner allegedly committed suicide inside a bathroom at the KwaDukuza Magistrates’ Court in KwaZulu-Natal.

Police spokesperson Colonel Bheki Zondi said the prisoner was due to be transferred to Westville Prison when he asked to use the bathroom.

While in the toilet, the man then reportedly hanged himself with his shoelaces, added Zondi.
