Manhunt after 2 Ekurhuleni metro cops killed in Thembisa

Suspects fled with stolen service pistols after fatally shooting two Ekurhuleni metro police officers reporting for night duty.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) has confirmed the death of two officers who were fatally wounded while reporting for night duty in Thembisa last night.

According to Kempton Express, the officers, who were part of the EMPD’s Intervention Unit, were declared dead on the scene.

According to EMPD spokesperson Thabiso Makgato, the suspects robbed the officers of their service pistols and fled on foot to a nearby getaway vehicle.

“This is disheartening and a great loss for the EMPD and the City of Ekurhuleni. Law enforcement officials are on the ground, and those responsible for this heinous crime will be brought to book,” says Makgato.

“Our heartfelt and sincere condolences go out to the bereaved families and colleagues.”

The EMPD and other law enforcement agencies have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
