Police carried out a bust at a marijuana manufacturing plant inside Jackal Creek Golf Estate in North Riding, recently.

The bust comes after they received an anonymous tip-off on March 13 about the upmarket golf estate. When they arrived, they found an elaborate and expensive set-up, with fans, air pipes, air conditioners, artificial sunlight, and many pots with healthy marijuana plants growing.

“Bags of processed and dried marijuana were also seized and taken to Honeydew police’s exhibit storeroom,” says Honeydew Police Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Dave Stanton.

“Two suspects were arrested and charged with manufacturing and dealing in dagga. They will appear in Randburg [Magistrate’s] Court. All anonymous tips we receive are taken seriously by the police and acted upon timeously,” says Stanton.

Jackal Creek Golf Estate’s head of sales and marketing, Dean Bester, said this was the first incident of its nature at the estate.

“Jackal Creek Golf Estate is a secured estate and for every resident and owner a full criminal check is run including a check of IDs, ID photos, fraud, previous records, citizenship, working permits, and more,” he says.

He added that the estate’s security suspected illegal activity and contacted the police about this incident, assisting police in their needs during the arrest.
