Missing KZN family possibly found after police recover vehicle from river

The family was travelling from Bergville to Vryheid on New Year's Day, but never arrived at their destination.

The bodies of a family from Bergville, situated in the Drakensberg mountain foothills, who have been missing since New Year’s Eve have most likely been found after police recovered a vehicle submerged in a small stream on the outskirts of Ladysmith.

They were travelling from Bergville to Vryheid, but never arrived at their destination.

Police search-and-rescue divers started just after 11:00 yesterday morning, recovering bodies from the vehicle.

Police search-and-rescue officers from Ladysmith and Newcastle on the scene.

While it is too early to say what happened, it looks like the vehicle lost control during a heavy thunderstorm, crashing over a crash barrier and ending up in the stream.

The car matches the description of the missing car belonging to the family.
