Missing Sodwana Bay skipper: Man taken in for questioning

The identity of the man has not been made public, and various law enforcement agencies continue investigations.

The police in the uMkhanyakude District of KZN have confirmed a man has been taken in for questioning in the missing Sodwana Bay skipper case.

At this stage, the identity of the man taken in for questioning has not been made public.  It is unclear whether he was apprehended by police or found by community members, but he is in the custody of police and has been taken to Manguzi in KZN.

Police previously identified a man they believed could help with information in the case.

Earlier this morning, as the search for the missing John Matambu entered its fourth day, uMkhanyakude District police spokesperson Captain Justice Hlabisa confirmed to Zululand Observer that the man pictured is wanted by police for questioning relating to the missing person’s case.

According to the search team, the ‘person of interest’ and Matambu made it to Island Rock on Saturday as per the charter and Matambu messaged the base to say he would soon return.

At the time of publication, Matambu was still missing.

“If anyone has any information as to the whereabouts of this man, they are urged to contact Mbazwana Police Station on 035 571 0005,” said uMkhanyakude District police spokesperson Captain Justice Hlabisa.
