Mopani District Municipality in Limpopo receives millions for drought relief

The Mopani District Municipality has been granted R84mil drought relief fund from the Department of Water and Sanitation to address challenges of lack of water.

The district municipality previously approached the national department for funding to put in place further water infrastructure, Letaba Herald reports.

“The shortages of water in some parts of the District has been worsened after dam levels at ten of the major dams dropped significantly due to drought. The dam levels are currently between seven and 28 percent,” said Witness Tiva, spokesperson for the Mopani District Municipality (MDM).

According to Tiva, the MDM have already stopped abstracting water from the Modjadji and Thapane dams that are found in the Greater Letaba Municipal area due to drought.
