More e-hailing hijacking suspects arrested in Mamelodi East
The four suspects will appear in Mamelodi magistrate’s court soon as the net closes in on the group that hijacked e-hailing vehicles.

Four more suspects have recently been arrested in Mamelodi East since the arrest of a 31-year-old man on March 31, for e-hailing hijackings.
The men were arrested as the investigation into the group hijacking e-hailing vehicles continued, according to Mamelodi East police station commander, Brigadier Terence Naidoo.
Naidoo said the first two suspects, aged 25 and 31, were arrested after members of a client’s service centre alerted police.
“Community members alerted the police of suspicious vehicles roaming around Mahube Valley.
“When the police arrived, they found a silver Hyundai i10 car that was reported hijacked recently with two male occupants.
“The duo was immediately arrested on the spot,” he said.
Naidoo said the third suspect, a 31-year-old man, was arrested by the Tshwane crime intelligence unit for the hijacked white Honda Amaze car model that is also affiliated to e-hailing services.
“A 23-year-old female offered the police R3 000 so that they could release the arrested carjacking suspects.
“She was immediately arrested for corruption,” he said.
Naidoo has declared the reduction of serious and violent crimes, as well as the fight against drugs as his two priorities aimed at bringing down the level of crime in Mamelodi East.
“I would like to thank officers of the Tshwane crime intelligence unit and Mamelodi East members for their positive response that led to the arrest of these suspects and making sure that the promise we made to victims of car hijacking is delivered.”
