N4 killings update: Multiple shots fired at BWM in which women died

A special task team has been established to investigate the murders of two women on a highway.

The families of the two women who were shot dead inside a vehicle on the N4 in Mpumalanga on Sunday have not yet come forward to identify their bodies.

This is according to information received from the police.

Middelburg Observer has photographs that show a white BMW, in which police discovered the women’s bodies, riddled with bullet holes.

Police have opened two murder dockets since the gruesome discovery at 09:00, 5km from the Alzu Petroport.

The body of one of the victims was found slumped over in the front passenger seat of the luxury sedan, while the other body was found on the backseat.

The driver of the vehicle, an unidentified man, apparently got permission from the owner to transport the two victims home after an event.

The victims are said to have been 25 and 35 years old. Both were declared dead on the scene, and both had been shot multiple times.

SAPS Mpumalanga spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli says the driver was found safe. He said more details will be released as the investigation progresses. No arrests have been made yet.

“It’s safe to say the investigation team, assigned by the acting provincial commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, is on the ground following some information which we cannot currently share with the public as it can jeopardise the investigation, however one of the commanders indicated that he’ll share information with regard to any progress. I’ll then update the media accordingly,” Mdhluli said.

He added that a special task team has been established to work the case.

The car was found with no number plates, but police found two Gauteng registration plates in a suitcase inside the vehicle.
