Newcastle court grants bail to man accused of killing 17-year-old
A 26-year-old man accused of murdering Newcastle teenager Henrico Oosthuizen has been released on bail under strict conditions.
Suleman Tayob (26), who stands accused of the murder of 17-year-old Henrico Oosthuizen, was granted bail in the Newcastle District Court this morning.
Newcastle Advertiser reports that Tayob, represented by Attorney Zubair Chothia, appeared in court for his formal bail application.
His release on bail was not opposed by the state.
The courtroom was filled to capacity, with members of both the Tayob and Oosthuizen families present as they awaited the magistrate’s decision.
The court granted Tayob bail in the amount of R2 500, subject to strict conditions.
These include the immediate surrender of his passport, reporting to Newcastle SAPS every Friday and that he may not contact any witnesses.
The Oosthuizen family has requested privacy during this difficult period as they continue to mourn the loss of their son and process the court’s decision.
The incident
Henrico died on December 8 after being struck over the head, allegedly with a pipe, in the early hours of December 7 following an altercation in Gemsbok Street.
He was taken to hospital for an emergency operation after sustaining severe brain injuries but died the following day.
