No arrests in Celia da Costa murder
Police are yet to make an arrest after the murder of Johannesburg eatery owner Celia da Costa, who was killed over the weekend.
Da Costa, 49, who owned the Rodizio Brazilian Restaurant, was travelling with a staff member on the M1 highway towards Sandton, returning from the Lusito Land Festival in La Rochelle, Johannesburg when the two were reportedly cornered by a Mercedes and a VW Golf on Saturday.
“There have been no arrests, and investigations are still continuing,” Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said on Wednesday.
According to police, the pair were pulled from the vehicle and shot after a brief altercation with the suspects. It is believed Da Costa was shot in the left side of her neck. The suspects then allegedly used a crowbar to force the boot of Da Costa’s car open before fleeing with an undisclosed number of goods.
On Sunday, the Lusito Land Festival through their official twitter account, sent their condolences to Da Costa and her family.
“The executive committee, staff and learners from the Lusito Association would like to express their deepest condolences to […] family, friends and staff of Rodizio, on the tragic passing of a wonderful woman […] a beautiful life taken away too soon due to another senseless act of crime,” they said in the post.
