Multiple vehicles, including a truck, a minibus taxi and passenger vehicles, have collided on the N11 (Majuba Pass). Sadly, one person has been confirmed dead.

According to sources, paramedics have treated 21 more patients for injuries. These range from minor scrapes and abrasions to more serious injuries.

Reporters at the scene said a downhill section of the N11, a few kilometres from the Ingogo turn-off towards Volksrust (approximately 28km outside of Newcastle), is strewn with spilled maize and the road surface is slippery.

The exact cause of the collision has not yet been determined and remains subject to an official investigation.
