One of two suspects arrested after KZN murder
Investigations are underway after a 29-year-old man was stabbed to death in the Wembezi area in KwaZulu-Natal.
It was alleged that yesterday at about 7.45pm, Sibongiseni Mtshali had been sleeping alongside his girlfriend in the Zwelisha location when two suspects entered the establishment by force and demanded cash.
Police said the suspects took R80 from the woman and tried to rape her.
One of the suspects allegedly stabbed Mtshali in his shoulder with a knife. Mtshali died instantly. Both suspects fled the scene on foot.
The woman started to scream requesting help from neighbours. Community members then chased the suspects, and one of them was arrested and handed over to the police. He will reportedly be charged with murder, house robbery and attempted rape. The other suspect is still at large.
The arrested suspect was said to be appearing in the Estcourt Magistrates’ Court soon.
KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members of the community for their assistance that led to the arrest of the suspect.
In a separate incident, Phumlani Ngongoma (38) was arrested formurder after he allegedly shot and killed a 36-year-old man while he was at his house last month.
Police said it had been alleged that Ngongoma had fired shots at the man.
The victim sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest and died at the scene, added police.
After firing two shots, Ngongoma was believed to have fled the scene in a taxi.
