Over-50s without medical aid can get vaccinated at Dis-Chem

Pharmaceutical chain Dis-Chem has extended its Covid-19 vaccine service to medically insured and uninsured individuals, provided they are registered on the electronic vaccination system (EVDS).
Since last Friday, the chain has been operating at full capacity also allowing walk-ins only registered on EVDS, said CEO Ivan Saltzman.
He said that priority, however, would be given to those with a booking.
“As a private sector service provider, we are pleased to be playing a meaningful role in servicing South Africans more equitably,” he said.
“Dis-Chem has seen a significant surge in demand across its sites nationally, driven by three main factors: over 50s registration and eligibility; the growing need to administer second doses as the country enters the second week of second doses and private sector sites now being able to vaccinate uninsured individuals.”
Since the campaign started, the chain says it has administered about 100 000 vaccinations.
Dis-Chem is currently operating 14 mass vaccination sites across the country.
Additional sites are in the planning stage, which includes mass vaccination sites and in-store clinics.
Registrations for over 50s have opened and those over 50 can register on the EVDS.
“All eligible over 60s who are yet to be vaccinated are urged to come forward for vaccination as soon as possible,” Dis-Chem said.
