Overseas drug shipment worth R6 million seized in Cape Town
During a search of the suspect’s home, 1 kg of hydroponic cannabis with an estimated street value of R120 000 as well as equipment used for the cultivation of hydroponic cannabis was seized.

A large drug shipment from Europe en route to Durbanville in the Cape was traced by the narcotics wing of the Hawks who also arrested a 30-year-old suspect.
According to a statement released by the police, the bust was made by the South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau, Crime Intelligence and South African Revenue Service custom officials on 14 May.
The consignment consisted of more than R6 million worth of drugs that had been concealed in a shipment of furniture. The statement read, ‘The teams jointly tracked a container loaded with MDMA (ecstasy powder) worth an estimated R6.3 million and ecstasy tablets valued at R70 000 to Cape Town Harbour.’

The Acting Provincial Head of the Hawks in Western Cape, Brigadier Mushavhaduvha Ramovha commended the joint team for its excellent work, saying a multidisciplinary approach was the only way to curb the prevalence of drugs in the province.
The suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on 18 May.
