Patron shot 8 times at a KZN South Coast pub: Off-duty officer arrested
A man who was shot numerous times inside a bar passed away before paramedics arrived at the scene.
An off-duty law enforcement officer handed himself over to police after allegedly shooting and killing a bar’s customer in Shelly Beach, KZN, last night.
According to reports, an off-duty Ray Nkonyeni municipal law enforcement officer and the victim got into an altercation at about 21:00 last night.
South Coast Herald reported that the fight broke out in the bar area, in front of staff and patrons.
It is alleged that the officer confronted the victim and shot him eight times. The victim died instantly.
KZN Private Ambulance Service responded to the scene and assessed the victim, says spokesperson Craig Botha.
The man passed away before emergency services reached the scene, he adds.
Port Shepstone SAPS confirmed that the officer has been arrested and charged accordingly.
A case of murder has been opened for investigation.
