Police concerned about multiple killings in Kagiso township

Police say that they need the community's help to stop senseless killings by rival foreign nationals across Kagiso.

Police have expressed their concern about multiple murders that have recently been committed in Kagiso, a township near Krugersdorp.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya warned that for the past three weeks areas like Swaneville, Tshepisong, Rietvallei and Soul City have experienced continued senseless murders committed by unknown killers believed to be rival foreign nationals fighting for illegal mining territories or possibly dodgy deals.

In the latest incident, a 38-year-old BaSotho national was shot and killed near a tavern in Swaneville at about 01:45 on Monday, February 7. The man was shot in his upper body multiple times.

This incident came only a few hours after a 40-year-old man and his 28-year-old live-in lover were gunned down in Soul City. The couple were shot multiple times in the upper body.

In both incidents the motive for the killings is still being investigated by police,” Sibiya said, adding that the manner in which these killings are carried out puts the lives of innocent residents at risk.

“The Kagiso Police therefore believe it is time residents report and expose the perpetrators behind these heinous crimes, as most of the suspects live at the back of their yards as tenants.

“These merciless perpetrators have no respect for human life, and residents have the responsibility and potential to stop them because the situation worsens each day. We are convinced that members of the community can play a vital role in bringing those responsible to book and bring an end to the killings.”

Kagiso Police station commander Brigadier Themba Maduna concluded in saying, “We urge residents to work closely with the police, even more than before, by providing useful information that is needed to change the situation in their areas for the best.”

The police are appealing to anyone who knows the perpetrators behind these killings to call their nearest police station or the Kagiso Police on 011 696 9000, 011 696 9059, 011 696 9065 or 011 696 9067.

The public can also call the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111 or send an SMS to 32211 and remain anonymous.

“You can be assured that your information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.”
