Police fire-off rubber bullets at Camden Power Station entrance after protester hurls rock at them

The protester might previously have been without sin, but when he cast the first stone at a police officer, pandemonium ensued at Camden Power Station on 24 June.

Protesters gathered at the Camden Power Station entrance as early as 4am to air their frustration with management over employment issues.

A posse of policemen, armed to the teeth, monitored the situation carefully.

After a while, they decided to assist employees who wanted to work, to safely enter the area.

As the police moved in, some protesters dispersed, while others decided to stand firm and hold their ground.

Police stood mere meters away from protesters who were immersed in jovial song and dance.

The situation, taking into consideration the number of protesters, was quite tense, but both sides for the most part, kept their composure.

In a defiant moment, however, a protester cast a stone which abruptly tipped the once peaceful balance.

The stone landed mere inches from a police officer’s feet and in a matter of seconds, all hell broke lose.

The officer retaliated by opening fire on protesters with rubber bullets and this action saw other officers following suite.

Rubber bullets skid over the tarmac and loud explosions of two tear gas canisters, announced police’s change from a defensive to offensive stance.
