Pregnant woman found dead in hospital toilet

An inquest docket has been opened after a 30-year-old pregnant woman was found dead inside the toilet facility at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal.

According to Phoenix police spokesperson Lieutenant L Naidoo, the pregnant woman was transferred from the Ntuzuma Clinic to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. She is believed to have been nine months pregnant, Phoenix Sun reported.

A passerby saw the woman slumped on the floor and called for assistance on Tuesday. Naidoo said that the woman had sustained a bust lip when she allegedly fell to the ground. The unborn baby did not survive.

The circumstances leading to her death are unclear at this stage and it is unknown at what time she passed away, which led to the subsequent death of the unborn baby.

This after an unidentified man collapsed and died on the pavement of a hospital in Noordheuwel, Krugersdorp, on the West Rand, on Tuesday.

Krugersdorp police spokesperson Constable Tshepiso Mashale said the man was apparently walking with his friends when he started vomiting. He then collapsed on the pavement of the Netcare Bell Street hospital. Paramedics were called, and the victim was certified dead on the scene.
