Best Care ambulance services spokesperson Berrick Kekana said the child was lying in the middle of the road when paramedics arrived,Rekord Moot reported.

The child suffered a possible head injury and both legs were broken.

Kekana added the Best Care took him to the Steve Biko Academic hospital.

“It was not immediately clear what happened,” said Kekana.

Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said he was waiting for information on the matter.

Meanwhile, a 10 year old pupil from Laerskool Reynorif was rushed to Life Cosmos Hospital after being hit by a car earlier today.

Hope Mthombeni was walking home from school and crossed the road by the stop sign in Dixon Street in Witbank, Mpumalanga, theWitbank News reported.

The driver of the vehicle allegedly failed to stop in time.

The pupil was treated on scene by Langamed Emergency Management and thereafter taken to hospital for further treatment.

In a separate incident, a teenager was killed when he was struck by a car between Inanda and Hillcrest in KwaZulu-Natal in September.

The youth was declared dead on the scene.
