Probe into two police officers after woman’s death outside Benoni
A woman was found shot and killed in a vehicle, reportedly after a police chase in Etwatwa outside Benoni.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating a case of murder after police officers from Etwatwa outside Benoni allegedly shot and killed a woman on November 12.
According to IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping, two police officers were patrolling along Vermeulen and Durant roads when they tried to stop a maroon BMW with five occupants (four men and a woman).
Suping said the driver did not stop and that police gave chase with blue lights and sirens.
“The BMW driver refused to stop. The officers alleged that they heard gunshots coming from the BMW and retaliated by firing two warning shots into the air and one in the direction of the BMW.
“The BMW eventually stopped. The police further alleged that after the car stopped, three male occupants got out and ran into a nearby veld, but later returned to the scene. The officers said the driver and female occupant remained in the car.
“When the police approached the car they noticed that the female occupant, who was sitting in the back, had been shot in the neck.”
An ambulance was called and the woman was declared dead on the scene.
Her body was taken to the Springs Mortuary.
Suping said the matter is now under investigation as police members are believed to be involved in the fatal shooting.
“IPID will disclose the outcome once the investigation is complete,” she concluded.
