The man accused of the rape and murder of Amantle Samane (6) will be making his second appearance in the Protea Magistrate’s Court today.

Amantle was lured into a rented shack in Orlando East on October 21, and then raped and strangled to death, allegedly by Mozambican national Sara Peta Simiao (24).

Simiao was on the run but was eventually apprehended in Zola 1 on October 24, bringing some relief to the grieving family and community.

He first appeared in court the following.

The community yesterday came together to bid farewell to Amantle, with her funeral taking place at Orlando Communal Hall.

Her uncle, Mmoloki, told Soweto Urban: “I am heartbroken because we will not get to see Amantle anymore. However, I am grateful for the support we have received from all the government departments.”

He went on to express the void her death had left them with.
