Samaritan shot dead during couple’s squabble
A Samaritan neighbour who intervened during a couple’s argument died when the gun he was attempting to wrestle out of the man’s hand went off, fatally wounding him.
The victim’s name was not released by Glencoe Police Station, Northern Natal Courier reported
Police said the incident happened in Sithembile, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.
The man involved had appeared in the Glencoe Magistrates’ Court this week, and police investigations are ongoing.
In November last year a Samaritan who had stopped on the M1 highway near Malboro, in Johannesburg to assist a stranded motorist, was killed in a hit-and-run.
A car travelling in the far left lane apparently hit the man who was on the side of the road assisting a motorist whose car had broken down, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said in a statement.
“According to bystanders on the scene, the vehicle that collided with the man continued to drive on.”
The man, believed to be in his 50s, was found lying in a ditch next to the highway.
Despite efforts by paramedics, he was declared dead on the scene.
