Stages 2 and 3 load-shedding to be implemented daily

Power cuts will be increased to stage 3 at 16:00 as Eskom continues planned maintenance.

Stage 3 load-shedding will be implemented at 16:00 and continue until 05:00 tomorrow.

Then, according to Eskom’s latest load-shedding schedule, power cuts will be lowered to stage 2 between 05:00 and 16:00.

Spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says this pattern (stage 2 between 05:00 and 16:00, and stage 3 between 16:00 and 05:00) will continue until Saturday morning.

Despite the return to service of 3 200MW of generation capacity in the last 48 hours, the need to continue to do planned maintenance and the setback of losing four generating units necessitates the implementation of stage 3 load-shedding from 16:00, she explains.

Mokwena says another forecast will be provided on Friday afternoon, or should any significant changes occur.

“Unplanned outages are currently at 14 894MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 8 336MW. Eskom power station general managers and their teams will continue to work diligently to return the units out of service, including the 606MW of generating capacity planned to be returned to service this evening,” she adds.
