Stolen Pretoria car used in failed cash-in-transit robbery in KZN

A cash-in-transit crew thwarted a robbery near Ulundi after suspects used a car stolen in Pretoria to flee empty-handed.

A cash-in-transit van escaped a robbery attempt on Saturday evening near the Biltong Store on the R34 between Ulundi and Vryheid.

According to Vryheid Herald, the van was travelling toward Vryheid when the crew noticed a bakkie parked on the opposite side of the road.

Moments later, another vehicle came speeding down the road and crashed into the back of the cash van. The driver stopped, thinking it might have been a tyre burst, but when crew members got out to inspect, they realised it was an attempted robbery.

The driver of the car fled the scene and was seen heading toward the parked bakkie. No money was taken, but the cash van was damaged.

Police later confirmed that the car had been reported stolen in Pretoria West, Gauteng.

Investigations are continuing.
