Thembisa police officers out on bail after alleged kidnapping and assault
Four police officers allegedly handcuffed a man and placed him in the back of a marked police vehicle, before assaulting him.

Four police officers from Thembisa, who face charges of kidnapping and assault, have been released on bail following their court appearance on Friday.
The officers were arrested on November 14 at the Norkem Park Police Station on charges of kidnapping and assault, reportedly for an incident that occurred on October 30.
According to information received by Kempton Express, males dressed in police uniform entered the victim’s place of residence in Birch Acres and told him they are going to search his place as they had information that he is dealing in drugs.
The men allegedly searched the rooms, handcuffed the victim and placed him in the back of a marked police vehicle.
The suspects then allegedly drove with the victim to various destinations where he was taken out of the vehicle.
He was allegedly assaulted at one of the destinations before he was dropped off at his place of residence later.
The incident was reported by the victim at the Norkem Park SAPS on November 14.
Lizzy Suping, the spokesperson for Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), said the officers were each granted R5 000 bail following their appearance in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
“Ipid is investigating a case of kidnapping and assault of a male by four police officers,” said Suping.
“Their bail conditions are that they surrender their firearms and should not contact the victim or any witnesses.”
The next court appearance is scheduled for January 30, 2023.
