#Thembisa10: “We traced the family” – Masina

According to a source in the City of Ekurhuleni, a team from the mayor’s office has been able to trace the family.

According to a source in the City of Ekurhuleni (COE), a team from the mayor’s office has been able to trace the family of the Thembisa babies that has been making headline news since yesterday. The number of babies born is yet to be confirmed.

South Africans expressed shock and even admiration at yesterday’s headline news that Gosiame Thamara Sithole from Thembisa gave birth to decuplets.

The Thembisan previously reported that government issued a statement that it was unable to confirm the birth of the 10 babies.

“We are not saying the birth did not take place. We are saying we have checked with public and private health facilities in Gauteng and have not been able to confirm the birth of the babies,” said Phumla Williams, the director-general of government communications.

CoE executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina took to Twitter this morning stating the family was traced and that the babies are doing well.

The Thembisan awaits confirmation from the mayor’s office as well as updated information from Guinness World Record and Williams.

Guinness World Records

Yesterday, the Thembisan reported that Guinness World Records (GWR) Limited commented that it was yet to confirm the reported new record.

GWR Limited senior publicist Jessica Dawes, based in London, said: “GWR is aware of the news that Gosiame Thamara Sithole has given birth to decuplets.

“At the current time, we are yet to verify if this is a record as the wellbeing of both the mother and babies are of top priority.

“Our records team, alongside a specialist consultant, are looking into this and will provide any information as soon as possible.”
