Truck driver arrested for allegedly killing Mpumalanga traffic officer

A traffic officer was run over as he directed traffic at a weighbridge.

A truck driver has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide after Gijimane July Nkabinde (57) was struck and killed by a truck at the Middelburg weighbridge yesterday afternoon.

It was initially believed that Nkabinde was pulling over a vehicle when the incident occurred, however, in a media statement, Moeti Mmusi from the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) said: “It is alleged that at the time he was directing the truck to the weighbridge situated along the road.”

The MEC of DCSSL, Vusi Shongwe, sent his condolences to the family of the late traffic officer.

He also urges law enforcers not to be discouraged by Nkabinde’s passing, but instead continue enforcing traffic laws in honour of him.
