Two men burnt to death by mob in Limpopo
Two men, of which one is a suspected rapist, have been killed by vigilante groups.
They were set alight in separate mob justice incidents on Friday, 8 November and SAPS in Mphephu outside Makhado are on the lookout for the suspects, Polokwane Review reports.
The first incident took place around 08:00 when police responded to a complaint from residents after a body was found at Tshituni tsha fhasi village near Nwambedi River.
The body was identified as the 27-year-old Elikana Makondelele from the village. His legs were tightened with an electric wire and there were open wounds on his body. The motive for this killing is still unknown and the police are busy with their investigations.
The other incident took place at 18:00 when a man suspected of raping a minor girl was allegedly set alight and stoned by residents of Raliphaswa Tshikhwani Village.
Police were attending to an attempted rape incident of a six-year-old girl in the village when they received a complaint of mob justice.
They went to the scene and found various objects such as stones and bricks next to the body of the deceased 35-year-old Lutendo Raswiswi from Matanda village. Residents had already left the scene upon arrival.
Police have opened cases of murder in both incidents and no arrests have been made.
Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba, provincial commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, has condemned these killings and instructed that the perpetrators be brought to book.
Ledwaba urged residents to steer away from vigilantism and to report any criminal activity to the police.
A manhunt has been launched for the suspects responsible for this inhuman acts.
