Unsuspecting police officers robbed
Police are looking for eight suspects after they robbed officers of firearms during a robbery at a café in Onderstepoort, Pretoria, on Wednesday.
A member of the Pretoria North Community Policing Forum (CPF), along with other police officers, reportedly walked into the café while the robbery was in progress, Rekord Centurion reported.
The suspects then stripped the officers of their firearms and forced them, along with the CPF member, to the back of the shop.
The men reportedly ransacked the shop and made off with alcohol and an undisclosed amount of cash.
No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Rebecca Phatlane confirmed the incident and said the suspects were being sought by police.
Phatlane added the café had been robbed earlier this month too.
In the previous robbery, three men entered the store on the morning of February 7, then bought beer and cigarettes before leaving.
“A few minutes later, they returned, ordered the store employee at gunpoint to the back and plundered the shop,” Phatlane said.
The men fled with R20 000 in cash and a laptop.
In November last year, three men were arrested after they disarmed two police officers and locked them in the back of their police van in Rabie Ridge, north of Johannesburg.
The police officers were allegedly approached by four suspects while they were eating lunch at a food outlet
The suspects pointed a firearm at the officers, disarmed them, and locked them in the back of their patrol vehicle before fleeing.
The incident was captured on cellphone video.
