Update: 4 suspects killed on Durban’s M4 freeway linked to murder cases
Four suspects killed in a shoot-out with police were wanted for at least three cases of murder in Inanda, two of which were double murders.
The police have confirmed that the four suspects killed in a shoot-out with the police on Durban’s M4 freeway last night were wanted for three cases of murder committed in Inanda.
Southlands Sun reports that police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says the police were acting on information received about the whereabouts of the wanted suspects.
“The police pounced on them at a shopping mall in Umlazi. The suspects sped off (towards the M4 Highway),” says Netshiunda.
A high-speed chase ensued, with the police catching up to the suspects.
“The suspects fired shots towards the police, and the police retaliated to protect themselves and other road users. During the shoot-out, four suspects were shot and killed. No police officer sustained any injuries during the shoot-out,” says Netshiunda.
The suspects were found in possession of three firearms.
“The suspects were wanted for at least three cases of murder in Inanda, two of which were double murders. The murders were committed in March and April this year,” says Netshiunda.
Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson, says when the paramedics arrived, the M4 Southern Freeway was closed off.
“Paramedics assessed the men. However, all of them had suffered fatal injuries, and they were declared deceased on the scene.”
