Update: Four suspects killed on the M4 linked to murder cases

The four suspects killed in a shoot-out with the police were wanted for three cases of murder committed in Inanda in March and April this year.

THE police have confirmed that the four suspects killed in a shoot-out with the police on Tuesday night (April 8) on the M4 were wanted for three cases of murder committed in Inanda.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the police were acting on information received about the whereabouts of the wanted suspects.

“The police pounced on them at a shopping mall in Umlazi. The suspects sped off (towards the M4 Highway),” said Netshiunda. A high-speed chase ensued with the police catching up to the suspects.

“The suspects fired shots towards the police, and the police retaliated to protect themselves and other road users. During the shootout, four suspects were shot and killed. No police officer sustained any injuries during the shoot-out,” said Netshiunda.
The suspects were found in possession of three firearms. Netshiunda added, “The suspects were wanted for at least three cases of murder in Inanda, two of which were double murders. The murders were committed in March and April this year.”
Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson, said when the paramedics arrived, the M4 Southern Freeway was closed off.
“Paramedics assessed the men, however all of them had suffered fatal injuries and they were declared deceased on the scene,” said Jamieson.
