UPDATE: Police launch manhunt after Oriental Plaza shooting
Police are looking for an armed suspect after his accomplice was shot and killed and an SBV guard shot and wounded during an attempted cash-in-transit robbery at an FNB bank in Oriental Plaza, Fordsburg, in Johannesburg on Friday.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said it is alleged the guards went to collect money at FNB at about 10am. As they were about to leave the bank, they were confronted by two armed men. A shootout between them ensued. The second suspect fled the scene on foot, and police have launched a manhunt for him.
The guard was taken to the hospital in a serious but stable condition. No money was taken. An illegal firearm was seized at the scene, added Dlamini.
An employee at the Plaza, Rashieda Wyldes, told The Citizen an unconfirmed number of suspects stormed the FNB branch this morning and fired shots.
Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact Crime Stop at 08600-10111.
