Video: 7 dead in horror crash on the R74 just outside Bergville

The occupants of the Isuzu bakkie sustained moderate to serious injuries.

The lives of seven people were tragically lost on Tuesday (March 6) in a head-on crash between an Isuzu bakkie and a Daihatsu Sirion, near the Drakensville turn-off.

The seven who were all travelling in the Daihatsu, were declared dead on the scene.

The Jaws of Life had to be used to free the bodies from the mangled wreckage.

The four occupants of  the Isuzu bakkie  were treated on the scene, and taken to Emmaus Hospital for further medical treatment.

Captain Otto from the Pietermaritzburg Collision Unit conducted investigations at the scene.

The exact cause of the crash is unknown at this stage.

Both vehicles were taken to the pound for further investigation.

The entire roadway was closed from around 11am till 3pm.
