Video: Chaos as building collapses in George

Emergency workers are freeing the injured from the rubble of the collapsed multi-storey building that is still under construction in Victoria Street in George.

At this stage it is unknown how many people have been injured and if there are fatalities.

Many local emergency services are involved in the rescue effort. Chaos has erupted in the immediate area with onlookers trying to get a glimpse of the disaster as rescue vehicles with blaring sirens blast up and down York Street.

George Municipality in an urgent notice issued at 14:26 said access to Victoria Street is currently blocked from York Street due to the incident.

“The public is advised to avoid attempting to view the scene and to vacate Victoria Road to ensure unimpeded access for emergency vehicles,” the statement added.
