VIDEO: Robbers kick down door, flee with plasma screen

A case of house robbery has been opened after CCTV footage emerged showing three suspects storming into a house in Esther Park, Kempton Park, in Gauteng.

The couple, in their 50s, their son, 26, and their two-year-old granddaughter were awakened by kicking at their front door at 3am last Sunday as the robbers tried to enter their house, Kempton Express reported.

They went into hiding after insults were hurled at them by the robbers from the other side of the front door.

“We heard the first kick and all three of us in the house awoke. My husband shouted to find out what was happening, hoping to scare the robbers. He then pressed the panic button, and the alarm went off but the kicking continued,” said the woman, who does not want her family to be identified.

After kicking the door for a few minutes, it finally gave in and three men entered the house

CCTV footage does not show whether the robbers were armed. They stole a plasma TV and ran out, fleeing the scene in a getaway vehicle.

“We are not safe in our own homes. The police and securities say there is a silver grey Polo involved in criminal activity, and it needs to be reported,” she added.

Sebenza police spokesperson Constable Sharon Tshotshothso confirmed the incident and said no arrests have been made.

“Police are still investigating. We are confident to make arrests as soon.

“In most cases, CCTV footage is an important tool in our investigations as we use them to positively link the suspects to the crimes they committed,” added Tshotshothso.

In a separate incident, CCTV footage showed a gang of burglars stealing goods from a Sunward Park home in Boksburg, Gauteng, in February.

In the video, the suspect’s car is seen parking in front of the victim’s house.

Shortly afterwards, one of the suspects is seen fiddling with the gate and eventually derailing it with the help of his accomplice.

Three of the alleged suspects are then seen stealing what appears to be plasma screens and other goods worth R30 000.
