WATCH: Emergency landing on South Coast highway for aircraft

It was an unusual vehicle to stop Saturday traffic.

It’s not everyday that one sees a light aircraft landing on a freeway.

Yesterday (April 11), a light aircraft landed on the cente island on the N2 highway, a short distance from Mtwalume off-ramp, going towards Durban.

According to reports, it’s believed the aircraft had run out of fuel and made an emergency landing on the South Coast.

South Coast businessman Kevin Krummeck had been on the way to Howick with his wife Donna when the plane landed in front of them.

“I said to Donna I can’t believe what I’m seeing, it’s an aeroplane!”

They stopped their vehicle and Kevin got out to help the pilot push the plane off the road.

“It was kind of crazy to experience something like this,” he said.

(This coming from a man who has travelled from Dundee in northern KZN to Dundee in Scotland over land).

Once refueled, the aircraft stopped the traffic and used the ‘tarmac’ as a runway to lift-off.

“At least they got off all right,” said Kevin.
