Watch: Two arrested for Eldorado shooting injuring learners
A resident says that gunshots are heard through Eldorado Park almost every night. Her sister was injured during a recent shooting.
Police have made a breakthrough after a shooting incident in Eldorado Park on Thursday that left five people injured, two of them learners at Lancea Vale Secondary School.
An Eldorado Park resident, Sasha Hermanus, told the Soweto Urban that she was at her mother’s flat in Eldorado Park Extension 4, when the shooting took place.
“I was sitting with my baby on my lap and my baby-sister was lying on the couch. We heard gunshots and I tried to put my baby down and crawl to the kitchen. Bullets were flying through the window,” Hermanus says.
She says her baby sister got up and told her she was hit where after she noticed her sister’s injuries.
Hermanus says that they hear gunshots in Eldorado Park ‘almost every evening’ and that she no longer feels safe.
Since the incident the Eldorado Park SAPS Station Commander Brigadier Maluleke had a 72-hour activation plan which included the maximum mobilisation of resources including Crime intelligence, Crime Prevention and Tracing Team members.
Police made a breakthrough and traced the alleged suspects to Ennerdale.
Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, spokesperson of the Eldorado Police, says the two suspects, aged 19 and 22, were arrested on Friday at around 22:00.
According to Gibb, the two suspects were positively identified by a witness.
Gibb says that the suspects are expected to appear before court this week on charges of attempted murder.
Maluleke commends the dedication and determination displayed by the members of his Tracing Team and Crime Prevention.
The Station Commander indicated that the investigation continues, and he hopes for a hefty sentence and for justice to prevail for the victims and their families.
“The members of the Eldorado Park SAPS Crime Intelligence and Detective Unit are currently working on information which may further link the suspects to other incidents of shooting within the precinct,” says Gibb.
Residents are reminded that their continued support and positive information are breaching the gap of division among the SAPS and the community, and that without the dedicated residents and informers, breakthroughs such as these may take longer.
Residents are encouraged to continue reporting any positive information relating to the commission of crime, as well as to continue reporting the whereabouts of wanted suspects.
All information can be reported to the SAPS Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111, the Eldorado Park SAPS Client Service Centre on 011 946 0300 or alternatively the Eldorado Park SAPS Relief Commander on 082 444 3001.
