West Rand police officer nominated for Kwaito award

The nominees include big names such as Lady Zamar, Black Coffee and Kwesta.

Constable Lucky Matome (37), the spokesperson for Tarlton Police, is well-known for his excellent performances on stage in front of huge crowds, Krugersdorp News reports.

His love for music, especially Kwaito, was the start of his stage name – Scylash.

Scylash was recently nominated by the Mzanzi Kwaito House Music Awards (MKHMA) to be part of the third annual awards ceremony.

The ceremony recognises, celebrates and connects Kwaito and House artists and those who are constantly working hard behind the scenes to craft great music – individuals who have the capacity for achievement and success and who contribute in an inspirational way to the future of South Africa.

Scylash was nominated in the category ‘Best new Kwaito artist’ and needs votes from the South African community.

“Krugersdorp, I need your votes. Across all races – let’s bring this award home,” said Lucky.

“The song I’m nominated for is called Let it Drop – which was recorded at Base to Base recording studios. It can be downloaded from all digital platforms. Remember, I will not only be representing myself, I will be representing the entire West Rand as I’m the only artist from the region that has been nominated.”

The nominees will compete for the awards in the Big Top Arena at Carnival City on Saturday, 24 November. The nominees include big names such as Lady Zamar, Black Coffee and Kwesta.

To vote for Scylash send an SMS with the words MKHMA BEST NEW KWAITO ARTIST SCYLASH to 40439.
