White River court convicts former police clerk over cash loan business

A former Hazyview SAPS clerk was caught running an illegal cash loan business, where he kept bank and Sassa cards as security.

Former Hazyview SAPS administration clerk Bernard Ndlovu (53) was found guilty yesterday in the White River Magistrate’s Court of operating an unregistered cash loan business.

Lowvelder reports he was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment or a R30 000 fine, suspended for three years on condition that he is not found guilty of a similar offence.

Arrest and investigation

Following a serious commercial crime investigation, Ndlovu was arrested at his workplace on July 21, 2023. He was found in possession of 140 different bank and Sassa cards.

When clients borrowed money, Ndlovu took cards as security to ensure repayment. He was arrested for contravention of the National Credit Act 34 of 2005.

Hawks’ warning

The Mpumalanga head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber, assured community members that the Hawks will always investigate without fear or favour.
