Woman burnt beyond recognition in car fire near Krugersdorp school
Found alongside a dead woman in a burnt-out car was a gas bottle that did not explode.
A charred body was removed from a burnt-out vehicle near the fence of a local school in Coronation Park in Krugersdorp yesterday.
Krugersdorp News reports that, according to West Rand Emergency Services regional commander Gerhard Nieuwoudt, emergency personnel received a call at about 13:20 regarding a vehicle on fire.

“On our arrival, the vehicle was well alight, with a woman burnt beyond recognition,” Nieuwoudt said.
He confirmed that multiple resources were deployed to the scene, including personnel from Fire Station 38, police, forensic teams and the K9 Search and Rescue Unit.

Nieuwoudt said no major challenges were encountered during the operation and that the scene was cleared at about 15:56.
Gas bottle found in vehicle
According to West Rand K9 Unit spokesperson Warrant Officer Reinier Henning, an inquest has been opened to determine the cause of death of the woman who was found inside the vehicle.
“There was a gas bottle found in the vehicle, which did not explode, and we cannot confirm at this stage whether it played a role in the fire,” Henning said.
Police investigations are ongoing.
