Woman raped while walking with boyfriend

A woman was allegedly dragged into a bush and raped by two suspects while walking with her boyfriend in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

The couple were on their way back home in the Sonheuwel area on Sunday evening when two suspects allegedly attacked and overpowered them before forcefully dragging the woman into a nearby bush, Lowvelder reported.

A security officer who was alerted to the attack by the boyfriend’s mother arrived at the scene and found the traumatised male victim. There was no sign of the man’s partner.

Police and other security officials later arrived at the scene and found the 29-year-old woman after a short search.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Gerald Sedibe confirmed the woman was raped by both suspects and was later taken to the nearby Rob Ferreira Hospital, where she was treated.

A man was later apprehended, but he could not be positively linked to the incident.

In October last year, a woman was reportedly raped in front of her five-month-old baby in a banana plantation in Impenjati, near Trafalgar, in KwaZulu-Natal.

It is believed the woman was on her way to buy airtime when she was attacked by an unknown man.

The suspect reportedly told the woman to take off her clothes and threatened to kill her child when she refused.
