Woman’s body found in car

Police are awaiting autopsy results after a woman was found dead inside an abandoned car in Silverton, in the east of Pretoria, recently.

Kobus Koekemoer, a member of the Silverton Community Policing Forum (CPF), found the 52-year-old woman’s body while on patrol during the early hours of Thursday last week, Rekord Eastreported.

“At first I thought she was sleeping, but when I shook her shoulder in an attempt to wake her, her body was cold,” he said.

Koekemoer said a set of keys was lying on her stomach, while a walking stick was also found next to her body.

Police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said the CPF alerted police at about 3am.

Paramedics later arrived at the scene and declared the woman dead.

“The woman’s next of kin was contacted, and it appeared that she had been homeless. The vehicle she was found in was apparently not hers,” Sepato added.

The cause of death was not immediately clear, and police are still waiting for autopsy results.

In the same week, a man was found dead in his car in Farrarmere, Benoni, on the East Rand.

Paramedics said the 24-year-old man was found behind the wheel of the car in an unresponsive state and was declared dead on the scene.

It is believed the man had died from natural causes.
